Tax and interest deduction worksheet total sales tax rate. The sales tax we paid on our boat is a lower rate than the standard sales tax. Why must I use standard rate?

The sales tax on our boat was calculated at a lower rate than our standard local rate.  TT won't accept the actual amount, but wants me to use the standard, even though it is higher than the actual. Why?

Type 'sales tax' in the FIND window and 'Jump to sales tax'.  Type in the Sales Tax Rate used for your Boat Purchase (screenshot). 

When you enter your Major Purchase Info on the next screen, enter the same Sales Tax Percent you just entered (screenshot).

The correct amount of Sales Tax you paid will be calculated on the next screen (screenshot). 

You can add a second Sales Tax Rate for your state for the normal amount (screenshot).
