I work at a hospital next to my house, but I am also an independent contractor at a different hospital 50 miles away from my home on the weekend. Can I write mileage off?

For what it is worth I need to have my car at the facility where I am an independent contractor as there are multiple buildings I go between. The 50 miles is certainly a "commute" in laymen's terms, but I consider it a business expense since my main work is next to my house and I can't move.

Sorry, the IRS disagrees.  Your drive to and from work site #2 is still a non-deductible commute.  Your drive between the buildings at Site #2 is deductible, if you keep track.  And if your drive from site 1 to site 2 to work at both on the same day, that trip is deductible.  But when you have a regular place of work, your first trip out to work and last trip home from work are your non-deductible commute.

In some cases, your home could qualify as your "Principal Place of Business" where the administrative work of your business is done.  In that case, the mileage would be deductible.  However, based the the limited amount of information you provided, I suspect that may not apply to you.
