Soldier's Angel's blankets - handmade -- is cost of materials deductible

Hi forum: This year I made a bunch of fleece blankets for Soldier's Angels (https://soldiersangels.org/blanketdrive/). Is the cost of materials and shipping (completed blankets shipped) deductible under donations (I itemize)?

Yes. Out of pocket expenses are deductible.

I made baby afghans for the Linus Project. I understand the materials cost is deductible, but how do I claim it on Turbotax?

To enter your deductions manually, open your return in TurboTax.  Then, 

1. In the search box, search for donations and then select the Jump to link in the search results.

2. Answer No when asked if you have an ItsDeductible account (even if the answer is yes).

3. Answer Yes to Do you want to enter your donations for 2021?

4. Follow the instructions to enter your donations.

You can deduct the cost of your materials, as long as the donations were made to a qualified organization, and you itemize deductions.
