Sold a 2nd home in 2018 at a loss. Turbo Tax does not ask if it was primary or secondary; completed return Form 8949 shows it as "Main Home Sale" - is this correct?

A home sale is reported on Form 8949.  But double check that your second home sale was entered in the investment section of TurboTax.  See the steps in the FAQ link below to be brought to the investment sale section.  If your home sale was recorded there, then it was recorded in the proper place.

A primary home sale is entered in this section below.  If your home sale was recorded here, you will want to delete it and record it following the second home sale instructions above.
  1. In the search field in the upper right corner, search for home sale.
  2. Select the Jump to link in the search results.

Note that you cannot deduct a loss on the sale of your main home or a vacation home. This is considered a personal loss and is not deductible for tax purposes.
