Should the number I put in for childcare expenses be the total amount I paid for the year, or do I need to subtract the amount that was taken out of my checks pre-tax (box 10 on w-2)?

ie: total amount paid to daycare was $7500 and the amount taken out pre-tax that is listed on w-2 is $5000

You should enter the full amount.

The amount from box 10 will flow through and calculate the credit on the difference.
