You have a couple ways to solve this.
1. I would start with the dealership. Tell them that IRS Revenue Procedure 2022-42 states they are required to provide you with a copy of the successfully submitted seller report.
Explain that you tax return is being rejected because the VIN has not been registered in the IRS ECO portal. Ask them to please log into their IRS Energy Credits Online account and confirm the 'Report Status' says Accepted or Return Processed.
2. If you are positive the VIN is correct, follow these steps:
Hello............I am having a similar issue. I'm getting a message on form 8936 that my VIN matches the VIN of another vehicle. I have verified the VIN numerous times and it is correct. I also called TESLA and they stated it is correct and they had submitted all paperwork What do I do to fix this. I do see a box to check that I certify VIN is correct, but when doing that, I get an error message saying not to do it unless return was rejected. Please advise.
If you have already submitted your return and had it rejected then you can check the box certifying that the VIN is correct and resubmit it. The only other option is to print it and file it by mailing the tax return in.
Either of these options is going to result in a delay to processing your tax return. So be prepared for a wait.
Fixed the problem. For some reason Turbo Tax created a 2nd form so it appeared I had 2 vehicles. I deleted the 2nd form and the VIN was accepted.
