Recovery rebate credit

while filing my taxes I selected that no one can claim me and I also put that I didn’t receive any stimulus payments. I was informed that I’d receive my recovery rebate credit along with my taxes but I got my refund but no recovery credit and I was wondering why and what I need to do in order to receive that payment.

First check the stimulus payments the IRS has on file for you.

• Get My Payment - Select the button Get My Payment to see if your information is current based on the payments you did receive. If so, then it's another confirmation the IRS will not release the funds a second time.

If the IRS shows that you have received your payments, then you can take one of three actions below in the order shown. 

1. Try amending your return including a detailed explanation (prompted to explain for page 2, Form 1040X) about their site and that you did not previously receive it.

2. Write a letter to the IRS requesting a review explaining you did not yet receive your stimulus, and include a copy of your return including the Recovery Rebate Credit worksheet.

3. Contact the Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS). 
   • Select Contact Us, then select to download and complete Form 911, Request for TAS Assistance
   • If you have not opened a case with TAS, call 877-777-4778 
   • TAS is an independent organization within the IRS. Our job is to ensure that every taxpayer is treated fairly and that you know and understand your rights

Any one of these actions will not be quick, but it's important for you to get the stimulus you are entitled to.

As an addendum, take note that if you were a college student under the age of 24 on Dec 31, 2020, then chances are you do not qualify for any stimulus. It is not common for such a student to qualify for the stimulus.
