Hi,
I am filling us tax return jointly with my husband(us resident).
Please advise where to enter the following information in Turbotax:
1. The total amount of Canada T4E Employment insurance Benefit
2. The income tax deducted from this benefit
Thank you!
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You can enter the Canada T4E Employment insurance Benefit by going to Wages and Income, Less Common Income, Other Miscellaneous Income and entering it as Other Taxable Income:
The income tax deducted from this benefit can be claimed by going to the search box in the top right of the screen and typing "foreign tax credit" and then selecting the Jump to link.
Thank you!
I entered the Benefit in the Miscellaneous Income, but there is no way to enter its deducted tax in foreign tax credit, please advise how to solve this?
I followed the instruction, but it seems the foreign tax credit only for 1099-DIV/INT/OID/K1. There is no way I can choose to enter the General category for form 1116.
Let's do this a different way.
Navigate to Wages and Income, Unemployment, Unemployment and Paid Family Leave: on the Unemployment (and Paid Family Leave) screen select No, we didn't receive any of these payments on a 1099-G.
On the next screen, Other Uncommon Unemployment Benefits, select Yes to Do any of these other uncommon unemployment benefits apply in 2020?
Answer No on the next screen and then enter your T4E benefits under Private Fund Unemployment Benefits. You will now be able to search for Foreign Tax Credit in the search box in the top right and select the Jump to link. Proceed to navigate through the General Category interview to enter your T4E tax withholding converted to USD for Form 1116. Be sure to go back and delete the Other Taxable Income entry made earlier to avoid double taxation.
