The company I work for reimburses me for notaries I perform for the company. Do I need to claim this money on my taxes?

The company I work for reimburses me for notaries I perform for the company. Do I need to claim this money on my taxes?

"Reimburses" implies that they simply cover your out of pocket expenses.  That does not have to be reported as income, unless it is reported on your W-2 or they give you a separate form 1099-Misc.

 

If however, they pay you a fee for acting as  a notary; that is reportable income. It is reported as self employment income on Schedule C. That income is not subject to self employment (social security & medicare) tax because you are a "public official"
