If you entered the real estate taxes as part of your mortgage interest information, then you will need to edit the entry through the mortgage interest page instead of through the real estate taxes page.

I paid real estate tax separately.  I've removed the 0 amount from the 1098 entry screen.  I'm still unable to enter the real estate tax paid through the interview.  Can you help?

Try the following.

  1. Select the Personal tab and select Deductions & Credits
  2. If you have already input information, you should be able to see the section titled Your Home
  3. Select Property Taxes - start
  4. You will see the following screen:

Property taxes input

Select yes.

Your next screen will allow you to enter the amounts paid.

This will then pull into the applicable tax forms.

Please be aware the overall itemized deduction allowed for taxes is limited to  $10,000.  Anything above this amount is not deductible
