My ex wife claimed our son for tax year 2020 and I am claiming him for 2021. She is receiving the advance tax credit for 2021. How will this be corrected when I file my 2021 return?

Hi Sambat33,

Thank you for posting your question in the forum today.

Because the advance payment is based on the tax filer last claiming the child, of which they would only be receiving 1/2 of the amount the tax filer will be allowed to claim at year end, any amount they are not entitled to will be required to be repaid to the IRS.
