Hi,
I am filing single. I entered my home mortgage interest I paid for 2023 as stated on my Form 1098. But TT is not populating Schedule A line 8a with the amount. TT is telling me I only qualify for the standard deduction even though my mortgage interest, RE and property taxes and charitable contributions total $18,904. Why can I not itemize?
Thank you

Check to make sure that your Property Tax limitation is being applied accurately.
• If you itemize your deductions, you can deduct the property taxes you pay on your main residence and any other real estate you own.
• The total amount of deductible state and local income taxes, including property taxes, is limited to $10,000 per year.
This limitation could possibly affect the total itemized deductions.
Claiming Property Taxes on your Return
Hi Cynthia,
My property tax plus local and state taxes are less than $10,000. They are being applied correctly. My question is regarding my mortgage interest I paid. TT did not populate the amount on Schedule A. Actually, I just went ahead and manually added it myself. I can now itemize.
Thank you
