if you get a w-2  there is no deduction.  if you are self emplyed, that portion of the home would have to be used exclusively for business.    post back if you need more info

Are you referring to the home office deduction? If so, you cannot take this deduction if you were a W-2 employee. 

 

If you were self-employed, you can take the home office deduction as long as the office area was used regularly and exclusively for the business activity. 

 

Here’s how to make these entries:

  1. Under Income & Expenses (tab at the top of your screen), click Review next to Self-employment income and expenses (this assumes that you have already entered your self-employed income).
    1. Click Review again next to the specific self-employed activity and scroll down to the Expenses category.
    2. Click Review/Start/Edit next to Home office.
