I have self employment income and a home office deduction. We put a new roof on the house this year. Can I deduct a portion of this, and if so, where should I enter it?

Yes. You set up the roof as an asset of the business.

Use the % of of square footage of your home office as it relates to the total home square footage.

Step 2: Describe this asset, choices:

1. Computers...

2. Tools, machinery, equipment, furniture

3. Real estate property

4. Intangibles, other property.

You should pick #3 Real Estate Property

When you get to the question about if it is used 100% for business the answer is yes.
