Does TurboTax ever deduct their fees from state returns because that's the first one I've gotten and it's substantially less then what I was approved for?

I think you are asking if TurboTax would deduct their product fee from your state tax refund. The answer is no, it might be deducted from the federal refund if you requested that, but never from the state refund.

If your state refund is less than what you were anticipating, then the return must have been modified by the state when they processed it. If so, they will send you a letter in the mail explaining what happened.
