I am preparing tax returns for a family. claiming child care expenses for lower income spouse. their dependents were born 2007 & 2009. TurboTax gives me error "claiming child care for ineligible dependents. how could be ineligible dependents?
Once the child reaches the age of 13 on or before Dec 31 of the tax year, child care expenses are no longer deductible.
I am getting the same error message, but I disagree with the fact that once children reach the age of 13 they are no longer eligible. The error message states:
"You have claimed childcare expenses for an ineligible dependant. For your dependant to be eligible for childcare expenses, they must be 16 or under on December 31, 2020"
The same information is available on the CRA website:
I believe this is a bug in the program.
