Can you deduct vehicle registration fees if you sold your car last year but paid registration fees on that vehicle before selling it?

Yes, if you are itemizing your deductions you can deduct the portion of the fee that’s based on your vehicle’s value.

Not all states have value-based registration fees. Here is a list of states with deductible car registration fees.
