Can I claim dependent care credit for childcare I paid for for my older child while I was on maternity leave with my newborn?

My 2-year-old was in daycare for part of the time that I was on maternity leave for my newborn. I was employed this whole time, but just on parental leave. Some of the leave was paid and some was unpaid.

Yes, if you were gainfully employed but weren't able to work because of  maternity leave, you may claim the dependent care credit, since you also earned income.
