married filing jointly. entered state and local taxes totaling ~5200. Turbotax message says maxed out the 10000 limit. i have additional state/local taxes to enter, but TT does not do anything with them when i try to enter them; same message. Please fix.

You'd have to describe exactly which of these you are attempting to enter.....otherwise we cannot test to figure out what problems occur.
Make sure you know what is included in that 10,000. It is:
a) any Real Estate/Property taxes on your home and vehicles PLUS
b) any state and local tax withholding on your W-2 forms, PLUS
c) Any state or local income tax balance due you paid during 2019 for your 2018 state/local taxes PLUS
d) Any State/local extension payments you made last year for 2018 taxes PLUS
e) Any state/local quarterly estimated taxes you paid during 2019 for 2019 tax year PLUS
f) any State/Local 4th quarter estimated taxes you paid in Jan of 2019 for the 2018 tax year.

Duh. Thought 'taxes' referred to property taxes only (I left out state income tax). Holy cow, that's an unfortunate change in tax laws !
