Property taxes real estate

I own a house that I rent out while I live out of state (Sept thru 2016). I entered the property taxes under rental income section. Do I enter the same amount under deductions?

Property taxes real estate

No, you must allocate the total to the two sections. Enter property taxes that apply to the period when the property was rented under Rental Expenses. Then enter the remainder as a homeowner deduction (Real Estate Taxes).

In some cases, TurboTax will make this calculation for you. If so, you will see an entry under Deductions & Credits >> Your Home >> Real Estate Taxes. Verify that the amount is correct, but don't enter the total again.
