Property tax other than main home

My turbo tax program will not let me enter the taxes paid on property other than the main home.  Why?

Try using the following steps to enter the property tax on a property other than your main home:

  • On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner)
  • This opens a box where you can type in “property tax” (be sure to enter exactly as shown here) and click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)
  • The search results will give you an option to “Jump to property tax
  • Click on the blue “Jump to property tax” link and enter your information

That didn't work.  The field is already populated with a zero "0" and it won't let me even have access to the field to change or override it.

Try the following.

  1. Select the Personal tab and select Deductions & Credits
  2. If you have already input information, you should be able to see the section titled Your Home
  3. Select Property Taxes - start
  4. You will see the following screen:

Entering property taxes

Select yes.

Your next screen will allow you to enter the amounts paid.

This will then pull into the applicable tax forms.

Please be aware the overall itemized deduction allowed for taxes is limited to  $10,000.  Anything above this amount is not deductible
