Property tax not accepted by TurboTax

When I try to enter the property taxes for my home TurboTax does not allow anything entered in the appropriate box.  It just remains blank.  How can I enter the property tax?

Property tax not accepted by TurboTax

Here are 2 options  to help you enter your property tax in 

 

Option 1: (TurboTax Desktop or TurboTax online)

 

First check to see TurboTax software is up-to-date. Updates often fix issues like this.

 

If you're a homeowner, here's how to enter your property taxes:

  1. Open or continue your return. Be sure you are logged in for link in Step 2 to work.
  2. Navigate to the property tax section:
    • TurboTax Online/Mobile: Go to property tax.
    • TurboTax Desktop: Select Search Topics. Search for and select property tax.
  3. Answer Yes to the question Did you pay property or real estate taxes?
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to enter your property/real estate tax

 

Option 2 TurboTax (Desktop only)

  1. Use Forms Mode: Switch to Forms Mode and enter the property tax directly into the form. 

To enter your property tax directly in Forms Mode in TurboTax Desktop, follow these steps:

  1. Switch to Forms Mode: Click the "Forms" icon in TurboTax Desktop.
  2. Open Schedule A: Locate and open Schedule A (Form 1040).
  3. Enter Property Tax: Find the line for "State and local real estate taxes" (Line 5b) and enter your property tax amount directly
