Hello, me and my wife (BOTH US CITIZENS WITH SOCIAL SECURITY #) were outside of US in 2020 and 2021. Do we still qualify for the Child Tax Credit Payments?? (KIDS ARE ALSO US CITIZENS WITH SOCIAL SECURITY #)
What about Economic Impact Payment ?
Please advise. Thank you

Child Tax Credit - no - unless you lived in the US for 6 months of 2021.
3rd Stimulus / EIP- yes. there is no "abode" requirement.

They would qualify for the Child Tax Credit, but not any of the refundable portion.
@AmeliesUncle - I stand corrected; I even tested this before posting but didn't set up the test correctly, Yuck
you still receive the child tax credit (up to $3000 or $3600, depending on the child's age and depending on your income as there are two phase outs), however, it's a non-refundable credit, so it can't bring Line 22 of Form 1040 below zero.
if the abode test is met, it's a refundable credit, so you get the money, regardless of your tax liabiltiy, but still subject to the phaseouts and your income level,
sorry about that
