Paid for young man in the community to have a root canal is this a charitable deduction? Payment was made by us to Dentist office.

It depends, if it was done through a tax exempt charitable organization, you can deduct it. Your generosity is admirable, if you found out about this young man through a community group, check with them to see if they record the transaction and how it is handled.  Click on this IRS link for a tool to check the tax exempt status of organizations: Select Check.
