You may be able to deduct your vehicle registration fees if you are able to itemize your deductions. You can enter them in the Cars and Other Things You Own, and then Car Registration fees section when you are entering your deductions in TurboTax. They are only potentially deductible if the fee is based on the value of your vehicle.
That depends on the fee and what state you live in. You can deduct the part of the registration fee that is considered to be a tax on the value of the vehicle. This would be considered one of the state and local taxes that you can deduct on schedule A. But you can only deduct the part of the registration fee that is based on the value of the vehicle. For example, you might be charged a fee to register the car for the privilege of driving on the roads, a license plate fee, a fuel tax, or other taxes and fees. The only part of the fee that is deductible is the part that is based on the value of the vehicle. You should be able to get an itemized statement from the DMV.
