NY state tax will not carry over itemized deductions.

My itemized deductions are higher than the standard deduction, but the online version of TurboTax will not carry them over. I've deleted the state return and regenerated it, but no luck. This appears to be a bug.

Are your New York itemized deductions higher than your New York standard deduction? Both the itemized deductions and the standard deduction for New York are different from the federal itemized deductions and standard deduction.

How do you know that the itemized deductions did not flow to the New York return. In TurboTax Online you can't see Form IT-196 (New York itemized deductions) if it's not included in your tax return. The TurboTax program for New York does not show you a comparison of your itemized deductions and the standard deduction.

Thank you for responding. I think you’re right. I hadn’t factored in the limitation on deductions for high income. (Doing my mother-in-law’s taxes for the first time.) It would be nice if TurboTax added one of their friendly explanations about that.
