I have read all the questions related to this and thoroughly re-read every question asked and I still get this response for my 18 year old daughter. I tried deleting her and adding her back in with the same result. I have never had this happen before as my sons aged out and none of them are showing up this way. There is no shared custody as their father signed his rights away years ago.
Last year, I claimed her and her daughter, but this year, I wasn't going to claim either of them as my daughter worked and while she still lives with me, I wanted her to be able to claim her daughter this year. If I can't get this to go away, then she won't be able to claim her daughter on her own tax return.
My daughter won't be claimed on two returns, but it says that she can't claim her own daughter if she can be claimed on another return, but if she's not a full dependent, is that the same? I've never been confused by taxes until now and have yet to find anyone in the same position.

The bottom line is if you claim your daughter then she can not claim a dependent on her own return. If she was under 19 on Dec 31 you can claim her no matter how much she makes. You claim your granddaughter on your return. Are you filing Single or Head of Household? She should qualify you for Head of Household.
Even if you completely delete her and don't claim her she still has to say on her return that she CAN be claimed on someone else's return.
A dependent cannot claim a dependent. If your daughter was 18 at the end of 2019 then she can be claimed as your dependent, which means she cannot claim a child as her dependent. YOU can claim the grandchild on your own return. If your daughter can be claimed as a dependent (and she can be) the rule is she must say on her own return that she can be claimed as someone else's dependent.
There is no such thing as a "full" dependent or a "partial" dependent. She is either a dependent or she is not. And she is. She is 18 and she lives under your roof. If you receive child-related credits for claiming your grandchild and choose to share those with your daughter, you may do so.
"Nondependent - for EIC/dependent care only"
That means you choose to not claim the daughter however she still qualifies you for the EIC ...delete the child and renter from scratch...only you can claim her & if you qualify the grand baby as well. Follow the interview screens carefully.
