Kansas State Taxes, trying to deduct mileage or auto expense, is that just a federal thing or does state do as well?

No - you will only be able to claim the mileage itemized deduction on your federal income tax return.

KS only allows an itemized deduction for state tax purposes for real estate taxes (50% of federal amount), personal property taxes (50% of federal amount), mortgage interest (50% of federal amount) and charitable contributions.
