Hi there! I have an amount of 700 for my 12 W on my W 2 form. Do I need the 1099-SA form if I haven't used any of my HSA in 2016?

No, you do not need a Form 1099-SA.

Form 1099-SA is only issued if you did have a distribution from your Health Savings Account (HSA) during the year.

You will need to go to the HSA section of your return to answer questions about your HSA and to determine your eligibility to contribute to the account.  This will complete Form 8889 to be included as part of your tax return.  In that section you will see a question about Form 1099-SA, just answer No that you did not have one and move forward to the next screens.

Use these steps to go to the section of your return to complete rest of the HSA information:

    • On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner)

    • This opens a box where you can type in “hsa” (be sure to enter exactly as shown here) and click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)

    • The search results will give you an option to “Jump to hsa

    • Click on the blue “Jump to hsa” link and enter your information

No, you would not receive a Form 1099-SA if you did not use and HSA funds for medical expenses. Do answer the other questions in the HSA section and indicate that you were enrolled in a HDHP plan. Other forms that you may receive connected to an HSA: Form 1099-SA -  is entered in order to calculate the deduction and complete Form 8889 properly. Form 1099-SA is issued when you have distributions from you HSA account.  Form 5498-SA - Just keep for your records. It is not entered in TurboTax. <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/2766470-where-do-i-enter-my-hsa-contribution">https://ttlc.intuit....
