Can we enter one foreign tax paid as credit and another foreign tax paid in itemized deduction on the same married joint tax return for 2016?

My wife and I have 2 separate mutual fund accounts that paid separate foreign taxes. We file a joint return. Our question is this:

On our 2016 joint return, can we claim the foreign tax she paid as credit and claim the foreign tax that I paid on our itemized deduction?

No, you cannot unfortunately.  You must choose either the foreign tax credit or itemized deduction for all foreign taxes paid or accrued during the year on a joint return.  This is an annual choice.
