How should I file a return for a deceased individual whose estate is insolvent?

My mother died in 2018. At the time of her death her estate was insolvent. Her final return shows a small amount due. Should I file her final return with an explanation that her estate is insolvent?

No, file the return as prepared for now.

You are not responsible for her debts.

If the IRS seeks payment, you can then respond that she was insolvent.
