New Real Estate Job with Only Expenses

My wife got her real estate license at the end of the year.  She did not receive any income since she didn't take the test until the end of December, but we paid over $1000 in classes, tests, and licensing fees.  Are these deductible for this year or once she starts making money?

No, costs to be licensed as a real estate agents (such as the exam and preparatory courses) are not deductible as costs of entering a new profession are not deductible. 

However, for 2017 expenses, please see the following:
