You will get the $500 for your two children.  The stimulus money is based on a 2019 return or a 2018 return if a 2019 was not filed.  The stimulus money is a tax break for 2020, so you would get the credit on your 2020 return.

You claim a baby the year they are born in.

Stimulus checks will be based on information from your most recent tax filings, either 2019 or 2018 if you have not yet filed this season.

  • Up to $1,200 for individuals,
  • $2,400 for joint taxpayers, and
  • An additional $500 for each qualifying child.

Under the 2020 CARES Act, you will not receive a $500 payment for the child born in March of 2020.  However, the situation is very fluid.  Follow the news should there be a change in the law.
