If your state requires you enter a property parcel or a Parcel Identification Number (PIN), you may find the number on your property tax bill. Otherwise, contact your county assessor or state Treasurer for the information.

Additional information: Where can I find out how much property (real estate) tax I paid?

Here's how to add your Property Index Number on your Illinois return:

  1. Continue to Take a look at Illinois credits and taxes
  2. Scroll down to Personal, home and family credits
  3. Start/Revisit Property Tax Credit
  4. Fill out the information on Credit for property taxes
  5. On Property information enter your County and Property Index Number (PIN)

The Illinois Property Tax Credit is a credit on your individual income tax return equal to 5 percent of Illinois Property Tax (real estate tax) you paid on your principal residence.
