They should have sent you a letter with the reason why they made the adjustment to your return. In the letter it should tell you what to do if you disagree with their changes. If you did not receive that letter then you can call the IRS to find out why and what you need to do.
If the QMID of the Heat Pump had the letters "I" or "O" in it, the problem was caused by TurboTax. If that is the case, I would call customer support and ask them what TurboTax is doing to fix their mistake.
The IRS had a problem with the letters "I" or "O" in a QMID and provided a work-around. TurboTax ignored that work-around and filed the returns incorrectly (filed as usual, without the work-around).
Apparently this is a known issue with Turbo Tax. My Form 5695 energy rebate credit is messed up and Turbo Tax decided to report that my home is outside the US, which makes me ineligible.
Fixing it appears to be extremely complicated. I have been on the phone over 4 hours just today, and I was recently subjected to over 30 minutes on hold while constantly being bombarded with only Spanish. I have no idea what they were saying, but once it got to be 4:30 pm I was abruptly disconnected. I guess its quitting time for IRS folks. Thank God we don't get all the government we pay for. Ive never spoken to a more incompetent group of idiots in my life, and I can start fresh again tomorrow. Thanks, Turbo Tax. It's another tax software company for me after 20 years with TT. This is beyond ridiculous.
Sounds pretty simple, right? I did not yet get the letter, but the transcript was updated to reflect CP012. Internet research followed by examining my tax return demonstrates that Turbo Tax chose to mark lines 17 A-C on Form 5695 with NO, indicating that the house I installed the new HVAC into ..... is not in the USA. This automatically disqualified me. I filed two months ago, and I guess I will have to wait for the letter OR I could learn Spanish while Im waiting since the queue I was placed in only had Spanish messages (sounds like they were to hold, but what do i know).
Turbo Tax really screwed up
The Qualified Manufacturer Number was not the problem. The problem is Turbo Tax decided to fill in lines 17 AB and C with NO, indicating my house is not in the USA, which disqualified me.
So, my return was accepted but flagged by the IRS for two months it sat waiting for "manual review". Even though the IRS demands I input the address of the house, which was the same as the address where I filed my return from for years now, and in section B I state exactly that......it was ultimately denied and "corrected" to eliminate the credit.
I have to now wait another week or two to get the letter, file an appeal with supporting documentation, wait some more, and eventually hopefully get it rectified. Thanks, Turbo Tax.
Signed,
Former Customer

Is this for a heat pump? If so, that is interesting that the IRS would flag that because Line 17 isn't even required for a heat pump (although I think TurboTax does force those lines to be filled out anyway).
