The child tax credit (CTC) is for children under 17 on December 31st. However, if they qualify you may be eligible for the Other Dependent Credit (ODC).
The child must be under the age of 17 in 2023 to be eligible for the Child Tax Credit in 2023.
The ages for the CTC in tax year 2021 were only for that tax year. After tax year 2021 the prior child tax credit rules are being used.
You do not get the child tax credit for a child older than 16. Instead, you get the $500 credit for other dependents. The credit is non-refundable. It reduces your tax liability.
