My HSA form 1099-SA states a total contribution of $2,778.47 but if I sum up all my payments in 2019 it is $2,961.31. Why is that different? Must I contact HSA to check?

You can contact your HSA administrator to check. The most plausible explanation would be that your last contribution towards the end of the year was only received by the administrator in the first days of January 2020.

Please note that form 1099-HSA reports distributions by the HSA. Contributions to the HSA are reported on form 5498-SA.

Thanks - I called HSA and found there was a double contribution that was credited back to my account. So the result on the 1099 form was correct after all.

Thanks for your reply.
