My home is part of an association. Instead of paying property and school tax directly, I pay dues which go towards those taxes. Can i get a deduction for my dues?

Yes, you can take a deduction for the portion of your dues that are used to pay property tax and school tax.  You cannot take a deduction for the portion of the dues that is applied towards maintenance.

Yes --- very similar to cooperative  owners --- the management provides you the percentage of monthly/yearly Association fess that go towards property tax,  school district tax, mortgage  ( if applicable),  etc.  You multiply this  by your yearly payment to come to amounts for property tax, etc.
