My 1099-SA shows HSA distributions I took in 2024, but they were for 2023 expenses. How do I stop TT from automatically deducting the amt from my 2024 medical expenses?

To give an example with made up numbers, let's say my 2023 medical expenses were $10K (and not above 7.5%, so can't itemize). I paid $5K from my HSA early in 2024 toward that $10K that was in 2023. Now, in 2024, my medical expenses were $50K and I'm going to deduct a portion of them above 7.5%. But when I put in $50K of medical expenses and input my 1099-SA, it automatically assumes the $5K was to cover part of this $50K in 2024 and converts my unreimbursed medical expenses to $45K...when this should not be the case. Any way to fix this short of adding $5K to my unreimbursed medical expense number (making it $55K in this example) so that the final number comes out correctly?

Yes, in Schedule A under Medical Expenses, enter a placeholder for the medical expenses that were covered by the HSA.

TurboTax assumes that you enter on Schedule A all medical expenses no matter how they were paid, so the HSA reimbursements (the 1099-SA) are subtracted from the expenses entered in Schedule A.

Your solution is to add a Miscellaneous medical expense of $5k (in your example) with a description of "HSA covered expenses". This will increase your medical expenses to where they should be, rather than having to add each individual one.
