He was only unemployed for 3 months, but the job he took was 54 miles from our old house. Do I count 0 for old home to old workplace since he was unemployed? Can I deduct moving expenses on my taxes? If I count from our old house to new job it is over 50. If I factor in old house to old job(that he was let go from) then it does not meet the 50 miles.
My job did not change, but I was already commuting 26 miles to work. The home we bought is between his new job and my existing job. Info I found online showed only 1 spouse needed to qualify to get moving expense credit.

To meet the distance requirement (distance test) to deduct moving expenses:
The new main job location is at least 50 miles farther from your former home than your old main job location was from your former home.
In your case, to be deductible, the distance from old home to old work location must be 4 miles or less
