In need of some specific, expert assistance here. After completing the health-related questions, TT tells us that we had a gap in health-care coverage for 2023 (not true for either of us), and that we need to enter our 1095-A information, or my return will be rejected for E-File by IRS. We have 1095-Cs that show complete coverage for TYs 2022 and 2023.
We've spent many hours over the last few weeks researching and trying to resolve this, to no avail. Sure seems to be a software problem. I’d be very grateful for some specific help with this, as it’s holding up our ability to file the return and claim our refund.
Here’s where we’ve been:
Q: Tell us about the health-related accounts you had in 2023.
A: Selected ‘None’ for both of us. Neither of us had an HSA for 2023 (or 2022, 2021).
Q: Type of High Deductible Health Plan did each of us have on Dec. 1, 2022?
A: ‘None’ for me, ‘Family’ for Spouse (also tried ‘none’ for both, see below). Which should I select for each of us?.
Q: Did we receive form 1095-A for our health insur. Plan?
A: No for each of us.
Q: Did Spouse’s High Deductible Health Plan coverage lapse in 2023 lapse due to disability?
A: It’s didn’t lapse, but there is no way to get past this, because TT insists coverage did lapse. No option to state or correct this! Going back and selecting ‘None’ for the type of HDHP for each of us does allow us to move forward, however it then tells us we need to input the 1095-A info (which of course we don’t have, having never purchased Health Insur. from the gov’t marketplace!).
So which boxes should we be checking here (for each)? (Note that we have tried deleting forms 8889-T and 8889-S and re-visiting the Medical interview; didn’t make a difference)
A little further background info:
In early 2022 (and late 2021), Spouse received Unemployment Compensation. We continued Health Insur. coverage for each of us through Cobra; no gap in coverage. (1095-C for 2022; 1095-B for 2021).
So how should we proceed? This is the first snag we’ve had with TurboTax, and we’ve used it for many, many years! Thanks for tackling this problem!
