Medical expenses

I had my appendix removed in October 2024. I'm still making payments on all the medical bills. Is this a qualified medical expenses for this year?

Medical expenses

If you are asking whether the amount you have paid can be claimed as a medical expense on your Schedule A, Itemized Deductions, then the answer is yes.  It would be qualified to be claimed as a medical expense if you have paid it out of pocket without any insurance reimbursement.

You mentioned that you are still making payments on the medical bills.  If you are paying the medical providers directly, then you would only claim the amount that you have actually paid in 2024 as part of your medical expenses.

But, if you financed the bills or paid them in full with a credit card and you are now making payments on the financed amount or credit card, then you can claim the full amount that was charged in 2024 and not just the payments that have been made so far.
