After entering my medical expenses, including self-purchased medical insurance, the numbers do not show on the Deductions summary. The medical expense is lower and my insurance premiums don't show at all. This is resulting in the Std Deduction when I believe the Itemized Deduction would be greater. Can someone explain why this is showing as is?

Do you have enough total deductions to itemize?
You can only deduct the amount of unreimbursed Medical Expenses you actually paid over 7.5% of your AGI. And then all your itemized deductions have to be more than the standard deduction to get any benefit (so you would only be getting the benefit of the amount that puts you over the standard deduction). And since the Standard Deduction is increased more people will not need to Itemize.
For 2024 the standard deduction amounts are:
Single 14,600+1,950 for 65 and over or blind
HOH 21,900 + 1,950 for 65 and over or blind
Joint 29,200 + 1,550 for each 65 and over or blind (both 32,300)
Married filing Separate 14,600 + 1,550 for 65 and over or blind
Thank you. But my issue in TurboTax is that the amounts I've entered are not showing correctly in the summary. I entered $20k and its only showing $7.5k . $20k is above the 7.5% threshold. I'm trying to understand why the software is not using what I entered. Is it reducing my Medical Expense by the 7.5% maybe?
Yes. Is your AGI about $166,000?
166,000x .075=12,450.
20,000-12,450= 7,550 medical deduction
That seems to be in the ballpark. Then the software is using the 7.5% limit before it shows me my deductions. Thanks for taking time to respond.
