Medical deduction in Summary is $23884. Actual medical deduction is 40473 and is shown as such in the worksheet summary earlier in the return. Why isn't the correct amount shown the final summary?

Medical expenses are only deductible for the amount that is in excess of 7.5% of your AGI. If you look at your schedule A line 3, you will likely see $16,589.

The worksheet flows to line 1 of the Schedule A, then line 2 and 3 are used to reduce your medical expenses by 7.5% of your AGI.  Line 4 is your actual medical expense deduction.  This is what you will see on your summary screen.

Thank you, Vanessa.

I forgot 2020 was unusual in that I didn't have to take a Minimum Required Distribution.

Therefore even though my medical expenses were lower in 2020, They exceeded my income by a larger amount in 2020, hence a larger deduction.
