Loan origination fee - for bank we did not use...

can i claim a loan origination fee for a mortgage commitment that we did not use? we went with a different bank but paid the fee.

Loan origination fee - for bank we did not use...

Your loan origination fees are typically deductible if the lender calculates them as a percentage of your loan, the loan is secured by your main home and you paid them at closing.  In this case, which is not typical, you did not take the loan and it was not secured by your main home because you decided to use a different lender. 

Any loan origination fees on the loan that actually became your mortgage, secured by the home, is deductible.
