Landscaping for flood protection

My home has flooded three times in the last 10 years. I installed an elevated pool with walls that go around my house to prevent flooding in the future. Can I claim this as a deductible?

Improvements to a personal residence are not deductible on a tax return.  When the home is sold you add the cost of the improvements to the basis of the home.
