To claim the child tax credit in TurboTax, in the Search box type "child tax credit" (without the quotes), then click the link that says "Jump to child tax credit."

And the child tax credit is not $300. It could be as much as $3,000 or $3,600 per child, depending on the child's age and your income and filing status. See the following FAQ for more details.

EVERYONE will have to answer 2  questions in the Deductions & Credit section in regards to the  Child Tax Credit   even if you did not enter any dependents just follow the interview screens and don't jump ahead.
