Is siding considered home improvement?

Improvements to your own home are not deductible.    Keep a record of the expense for someday when you sell the home.

Is siding considered home improvement?

Yes.  This would not be deductible for any credit. However, if you sell your home this would be added to the cost basis of your home for when you sell your home.  This will lower the profit on your home. Be sure to keep receipts from the installation of the siding.

If the siding was added to a rental property then you would add it as a depreciable asset under assets in the rental section.
