Is property tax and real estate tax the same thing?
No, it isn't. Property tax is the tax assessed on vehicles, boats, motorcycles, and other items that require a yearly registration. If you itemize, these taxes are only deductible if they are based on the value of the vehicle. Real estate tax, is, as you might imagine, the tax on your home. Real estate tax is usually deductible.
