Is donation to a Catholic school fundraiser (no benefit received) tax-deductible?
I donated to my niece's Catholic school fundraiser (fun run) and they provided me with a receipt and EIN. When I looked up their EIN on the IRS website to check for its 501(c)(3) status, https://apps.irs.gov/app/eos/, the Catholic school is not found.
Per the school's website, the school is a Parochial school, and part of the educational system of the Diocese. I've read that religious schools may be under the umbrella of the church's tax-exempt status.
Is my donation to this school fundraiser tax-deductible?
